What is the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC)? Find out at this LWV of Dare event! The League of Women Voters believes that the direct-popular-vote method for electing the President is essential for representative government. There are more than 500,000 elected offices in the United States and all but one are direct elections (i.e. most votes wins). Only the President/Vice President is an indirect election. Article II, Section I of the Constitution specifies that state legislatures decide how to instruct their electors.
